A government is a group of people who are elected to make decisions for the population . The elected members pass laws in parliament, provide merit and public goods, maintain law and order . In Mauritius the government is elected every five years.

Local government

Municipalities generally take responsibility for parks and recreation services, fire departments, housing services, emergency medical services, municipal courts, transportation services (including public transportation), and public works .

Municipalities and District Councils (villages ) are examples of local government in Mauritius.

Role of government at international level

  • Flow of  capital ( money)

Governments sign international agreements with other countries in international organisations ( WTO, WHO, UN, UNICEF, trade blocs , World Bank, IMF ) . Governments maintain friendly economic, cultural  co-operation with countries across the globe.
