Understanding the technological environment in which people live and developing a critical interest in science are both facilitated by Cambridge O Level Chemistry.

Chemistry is the study of chemical substances, their properties, reactions and uses.

Studying Chemistry allows students to become aware of and understand the wide variety of materials which they come across in everyday life, their practical uses, their effects on environment and their impact on climatic change.

Cambridge O-Level Chemistry enables students to gain lifelong skills including:

• a better understanding of the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments

• knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry through a mix of theoretical and practical studies

• an understanding of the scientific skills essential for further study at Cambridge International AS and A Level, and skills which are useful in everyday life

• how science is studied and practised, and an awareness that the results of scientific research can have both good and bad effects on individuals, communities and the environment.

Learning Objectives

The aims are to enable students to:

• acquire scientific knowledge and understanding of scientific theories and practice
• develop a range of experimental skills, including handling variables and working safely
• use scientific data and evidence to solve problems and discuss the limitations of scientific methods
• communicate effectively and clearly, using scientific terminology, notation and conventions
• understand that the application of scientific knowledge can benefit people and the environment
• enjoy science and develop an informed interest in scientific matters which support further study.

Professional Experience

About Sunita Nundloll

Sunita has always been passionate about Chemistry. She taught the subject in various state colleges such as Queen Elizabeth College, Dr Maurice Cure, Royal College of Port Louis from 1981 to 2005. She briefly took on the role of substitute rector in 2008 and 2010 in multiple colleges to replace rectors who went on holiday.

She became a Deputy Rector from 2006 to 2012.

In 2012 she became the Acting Rector at Phoenix SSS until her retirement in 2019.
